The RiTE (Refugee Inclusive Technical Education) project is a three-year initiative funded under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the Field of Vocational Education and Training (CB-VET) programme. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of vocational training institutions in Uganda to deliver inclusive, accessible, and market-relevant technical education for refugees and host communities.
Operating in the refugee-hosting districts of Kampala, Arua, and Adjumani, RiTE seeks to address the urgent educational and economic integration needs of displaced populations by expanding non-formal and formal learning opportunities. The project responds to systemic challenges such as the lack of inclusive curricula, limited recognition of prior learning, and inadequate access to skills training for refugees.
RiTE brings together a diverse consortium of African and European partners, including TVET institutions, NGOs, universities, and entrepreneurship hubs, to co-design and implement context-specific interventions. Key activities include a comprehensive needs assessment, capacity building for trainers, development of inclusive curricula, piloting of training programs, and validation of prior learning and skills. Emphasis is also placed on entrepreneurship development, career guidance, and access to employment pathways for marginalised youth and adults.
Through a collaborative and evidence-based approach, the RiTE project aspires to create a replicable model of inclusive technical education that promotes self-reliance, social inclusion, and economic empowerment for refugees, while enhancing the responsiveness and sustainability of Uganda’s TVET ecosystem.
